Victim, Volunteer — or Visionary?

Music artist Christine Lavin once penned an arresting tune called Victim-Volunteer, with blisteringly insightful lyrics that lay bare how we hide from ourselves:

Do you think of yourself as a victim? / Or do you volunteer? / Do you let somebody else call all of your shots? / Do you cower in the corner in fear?

Or do you follow because it is easy to do? / Do you fool with modern high tech voodoo? / Too bad if you're a victim but whatever you do / Don't volunteer.

Two is duality: victim or volunteer, we're still dancing to external music, out of time with our own rhythm. It's been the way of the world for eons — until now. As we enter an era beyond history, we can drop duality along with dusty yesterdays, and embody a grander possibility. Caroline Casey calls this magnificent moment "a windfall of wherewithal," when the capacity and connections we need to give our vision a voice materialize at the speed of Light. It's time to acknowledge our intrinsic genius, which means saying yes to a third "V" — visionary.

The catch to claiming visionary status is, READ MORE

Walking Between the Worlds:
Samhain, Spirit and Sacred Story

This is a mystical time of year, when the veils between worlds are whisper thin. Secularly called Hallowe'en, in Earth-based traditions the turning of the wheel is known as Samhain (pronounced 'sow-in'), a powerful time to manifest intent.

In the U.S., Hallowe'en is about costumes, trick-or-treating, and occasionally, mischief. On the Celtic calendar, Samhain ushers in winter and the mysteries of the dark. October 31st precedes Day of the Dead/All Soul's Day on November 1st, a paean to the ancestors. The dark side — that which is hidden from our view — calls us to remember our transpersonal soulscape.

I've experienced a lot of death in 2014, including my Mom, my literal and actual oldest friend at 101, one of my greatest spiritual teachers, Angeles Arrien, and several acquaintances. This season of dying and release is an excellent moment to explore what is ending or "dying" within our own beings. What do you need to let go of in your life in order to move forward? Samhain and All Soul's Day is an invitation for each of us to embrace personal and planetary transformation.

Visionary activist astrologer Caroline Casey says, "We cannot live through the dead, but we can invite the dead to live through us." What gifts are asking, aching to be brought forth through you, when the entire world is awash in liminal rebirth?

The real treat of Samhain is the opportunity for quantum growth. The trick, perhaps, would be turning our backs on these inner voices beseeching us to shine our brilliance and step fully into our aliveness, passion, purpose and service.

It's time to remove your mask, and become who you came here to be.

Back to the Future

I'm riveted by the futuristic tour-de-force M.D. Waters has showered on our evolutionary synapses with her twin suspense novels, Archetype and Prototype, in which the protagonist clone displays more humanity than many of her human counterparts.

These are apt reads for now.

While we've transcended our Armageddon apprehension and traveled beyond the tide of history, the past can still be instructive. Since a number of ancient civilizations were quite enlightened compared with our own, it behooves us to ask, "What happened?"

Prolific researcher and author Barbara Hand Clow posits an extraordinary scenario concerning humanity's regression, split from Nature, and imminent return to wholeness in The Mayan Code: Time Acceleration and Awakening the World Mind.

Based on the work of scientific historian D.S. Allan and geologist/astronomer J.B. Delair, she hypothesizes that not only did a cataclysm circa 9500 BC plunge us from unity consciousness into duality and survival mode, which is still encoded in our limbic brains, but that the reconfiguration of the world at that time created tectonic plates, forming a planet with 20 faces: an icosahedron. She writes, "Icosahedrons are one of the five Platonic solids, the geometrical shapes that are the basis of how matter is formulated. In other words, Earth transmuted into sacred geometry 11,500 years ago."

These words electrified me to the core: an ancient cellular memory trigger.

We can only perceive the true nature of power through understanding the power of Nature. Clow states that until we return to the symbiotic relationship with Creation that we once enjoyed, we will not fully inhabit a World Mind, because this unity extends to all life on earth, not just humans.

Caroline Casey touched on the same theme in her radio show, when she spoke of how "respect trumps fear" in the natural world, and discussed the way animals metabolize trauma by trembling, which frees them to resume their normal behavior. Synchronistically, just prior to her show I'd caught the final moments of another program, on which the guest was discussing EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), a technique that enables people to reprogram their brains from trauma.

Kenny Ausubel, co-founder of the Bioneers Conference, suggests we try biomimicry: see Nature as teacher rather than resource, and ask, "What would Nature do? How can we wed human ingenuity to the wisdom of the wild?"

From Egocentric to Ecocentric

What does respect for the natural world look like? Marine acoustician Michael Stocker gives a stunning example of a man living on the Hawaiian island of Molokai who helped a beached shark return to the ocean. The Samaritan explained, "I like to swim out to a distant rock. There are a lot of hammerheads in the water, and now I've got credit."

This is a remarkable perspective compared with the more typical separation and fear to which we're accustomed — and a shift that is becoming easier to embrace as we draw nearer to what Clow calls galactocentric consciousness. She prophesies that within a decade we will transcend our reliance on technology as a means of mass communication and become a truly telepathic global society, just as "primitive" people were many thousands of years ago. Since I've always maintained that the Internet is our precursor to global telepathy, her words were a gratifying substantiation.

If the implications of an ancient reconfiguring cataclysm cause your circuitry to go haywire, download this: paleoscientific research indicates that "early humans showed no signs of being aware of the existence of the four seasons until 10,000 years ago." The cataclysmic event created Earth's variable rotation — or wobble — which gives rise to climatic changes. Our planet Herself underwent a trauma and ever since, she "trembles", bringing us the phenomenon of seasonal shifts. As above, so below.

Clow writes, "I believe the tilting axis inspired a preliterate scientific revolution that we are decoding in our times. The axial tilt changed the way we receive light on Earth…Megalithic astronomy, as well as indigenous astronomy, suggests that the Light is more potent and transmutative for humans during the equinoxes, solstices, and new and full moons. Perhaps that intentional attunement awakens cosmic intelligence. Perhaps a new evolutionary form began when the tilting axis cracked Earth open, as if Earth were a cosmic egg ready to hatch in the universe."

The ultimate key to coming home to ourselves as One people, one destiny, ready to rejoin the Universal collective, may lie in what peaceable cultures have always known: from the pain that cracks our hearts wide open, compassion and kindness flower. Naomi Shihab Nye's poem Kindness eloquently expresses this "proper dose of poignancy," a universal salve not salvo.

Changing the weather of our hearts alters the climate of civilization. It's a subtle shift we're quite capable of making as we travel at Light speed into the Age of Aquarius. Like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, we've had the power to return Home all the time — but we must discover it for ourselves.

Ecstatic Disharmony

"The longest night
The wheel is turning
What will we give to the night?"

This is the sacred Winter Solstice chant Caroline Casey included in her mythological trickster-redeemer  sharing on Tuesday night at Earthrise Retreat Center in Petaluma, CA. Situated in verdant silence far above the freeway, with a full Gemini moon casting a luminous spell, we drank deeply of the darkness with a fervent urgency.

"Ecstatic," Caroline reminds us, literally means, to stand outside ("ex" + "stasis") — which is what those of us called to midwife this transitional time on the planet feel, to the marrow. Embodying the sacred means returning from the Otherworld with wisdom gained. "To love disharmony back into harmony creates a greater harmony than existed before," according to author Michael Gruber.

What will YOU give to the night? The old way (but not the Old Ways!), the one right answer, outmoded beliefs and behaviors, fear of the unknown? Whatever it is, toss it into the cauldron and affirm, "xxxx is gone with the night!"

How to Live Forever

"You must go through the way in which you are not.

And what you do not know is the only thing you know

And what you own is what you do not own

And where you are is where you are not."

~ T.S. Eliot, excerpt from Four Quartets

When I began deleting my personal history, as Paulo Coehlo describes in The Zahir, it was the most joyous and bizarre experience of my life: I was simultaneously aware of who I was and who I was not, and 3D appeared both silly and sublime. It was expansive, akin to the seatbelt sign blinking off in flight as the Captain announces, "You're now free to move about the cabin."

Similarly: In college I listened to Woody Allen's amusing audiobook Without Feathers. The title refers to the Emily Dickinson poem, "'Hope' Is the Thing With Feathers".

The idea of "giving up hope" is as intriguing as stepping outside our conditioned responses. The day before the U.S. World Trade Center attacks in 2001, I'd finished reading Beyond Prophecies and Predictions: Everyone's Guide to the Coming Changes by Moira Timms, and felt suffused with a calm knowing, a sense that something was about to happen. As 9-1-1 unfolded I sent out a global message contrary to popular reaction, and was castigated as well as thanked. (Email me if you'd like a copy of This IS A Test.)

In this first year beyond prophecy, how do we live beyond hope, beyond history, beyond how we might once have responded, and simply observe our unfolding? Will Linville conveys the evolving human condition with startling beauty, demonstrating what it looks like to live as "a constant stream of consciousness".

We begin by enlarging the lens from microscope to kaleidoscope, as Caroline Casey illustrates: "We are remembering our true selves, our destiny, our role in the Dynamic Mystery Play. You know how sometimes people ask that harumphitudinous question, 'Who do you think you are?' We reframe: 'Hoo-Doo! You think! You Are!'"

This is how we morph into "forever beings" says thought leader Soleira Green. "Forever beings are not trapped by history, by past mistakes, learning, cultural influences, etc. Freedom isn't a concept since there is nothing but complete and utter freedom on every level, available all the time.… A forever being lives within limitless possibility, seeking change and creation constantly and always. This re-orients us to the ever streaming NEW and not to the static past."

Without "hope," without history, we're closer to our true nature than ever before. Or as Linville offers, "If you lose control, you're free. And you have everything."

Samhain, Spirit and Sacred Story

I'm not Irish (this incarnation), though I've long been fascinated by the culture ~ perhaps because, for me, Ireland defines myth and magic.

I've just read The Red-Haired Girl from the Bog by Patricia Monaghan, who was raised in Alaska and didn't begin exploring her Irish roots until adulthood. Her ineffable prose is tantamount to immersion in Celtic tradition. I traveled lustily with her through verdant valleys and over holy ground, inside the history and mystery of pagan celebrations once subjugated and now reclaimed.

Because Patricia paints a picture of an Ireland still steeped in "the old ways," where the Goddess in all her guises is a formidable presence, her story is a soul-nourishing gift for Samhain, one of the eight holy days that comprise the Wheel of the Year.

In the U.S., Samhain has been reduced to a children's holiday called Halloween, with a focus on costumes, candy and occasionally, mischief. But on the Celtic calendar, Samhain ushers in winter and the mysteries of the dark. October 31st precedes Day of the Dead/All Soul's Day on November 1st, a paean to the ancestors. The dark side — that which is hidden from view — calls us to remember our sacred heritage, as Monaghan so masterfully does in her incandescently rendered soulscape.

Mythologist Kathleen Jenks, an advisor to Monaghan's Black Earth Institute, explains on her own site, Myth*ing Links why this season is an excellent time to explore what is ending, or "dying", within us. What do you need to release in order to move forward in your life? Now, when the veils between worlds are thin, is a ripe moment for each of us to embrace personal and planetary transformation.

And the souls of those who have gone before can still share their wisdom with us, if we invite their collaboration. Astrologer Caroline Casey likes to say, "We cannot live through the dead, but we can invite the dead to live through us." What gifts are asking, aching to be brought forth through you in this quantum moment, when the entire world is awash in tremulous rebirth? How can you shine your brilliance and step fully into your aliveness, passion, purpose and service?

It's time to remove your mask, and step fully into who you came here to be.

Day Out of Time — Forgive Debt, Celebrate Possibility!

How intriguing that Obama says we are "out of time" when it comes to the economy and debt relief. He's absolutely correct, albeit on a meta-level he's not consciously aware of:

Monday, July 25th, heralds the annual "Day Out of Time" on the Thirteen Moon/28-day Calendar — a calendar on which every Friday is a lucky Friday the 13th! Breaking old paradigms and belief systems, the Thirteen Moon Calendar is aligned with natural rhythms and human biology, enabling us to access fourth dimensional frequencies by reciting each day's "energy signature". These daily affirmations (260 in all, referred to as "kin") work on an intuitive level.

What, then, is the Day Out of Time (also known as Green Day)? Here's a summary from the Foundation for the Law of Time.

Around the planet, this day is reserved for festival and community. Central focuses are: Planetary Peace through Culture, 'Time Is Art!', forgiveness, atonement, freeing of debts, purification, and the Art of Peace.

Celebrated annually since 1992, the Day Out of Time always falls on July 25th. On the Thirteen Moon Calendar, this day is not a day of the month. It is a day in between the closing of the previous year (July 24th) and the dawning of the new year on July 26th. The official flag for the Day Out of Time is the Banner of Peace.

The Day Out of Time is a day to celebrate "Time Is Art". This is what hundreds of thousands of people who follow the new calendar do every year on Gregorian calendar July 25th. And since art is the basis of constructive peace, this day is also celebrated as International Peace through Culture Day. Peace through culture is a fundamental premise of the Thirteen Moon/28-day Calendar. When you celebrate time is art you are promoting peace through culture.

Here's an article about How to See Yourself As An Artist, and one about how, by using the questions of the 13 Moons, Embracing Paradox Can Help You Beat the Clock.

The energy signature for Monday, July 25, 2011 is Red Overtone Skywalker, and sounds like this:

I empower in order to explore
Commanding wakefulness
I seal the output of space

With the overtone tone of radiance
I am guided by the power of birth.

On this Day Out of Time, we can join kin around the world in deepening our commitment to the truth that Time is Art, and that we can free ourselves from the oppression and confusion of the frequency of mechanized time. As we liberate ourselves from its distortions, we are awakening from the 5000-year spell of his-story, re-membering (making membership again) our connection to the galactic time magic residing in every human heart. And from this connection, true prosperity can flower.

In this time of reinventing resources (and expanding our resource-full-ness), Caroline Casey says of the U.S. economic crisis, "All debts are off!" And Jaison Starkes agrees: "Debts are an agreement on an old story."

The Law of Time site says: "Give the human a harmonious standard of measure and then a harmonious human will walk a harmonious mile.

Harmony ~ that's what the day of time is all about."

"The Energy is Not Your Enemy!"

This past weekend I was privileged to hear Jaison and the Nine (a wise and benevolent configuration of interdimensional beings who speak through him), address the wild 'n' woolly times we're enjoying — or NOT! — these quantum-shift daze.

One of the hallmarks of true channels is humor, something I discovered on my own evolutionary journey. Spirit (God/Goddess/The All/Creator/The Great Wazoo ~ choose your own term) has a wonderful way of imparting truth in language that enLIGHTens as it tickles our funny bone, making it easier to assimilate the gifts.

A favorite from Saturday: "pre-awakening, or 'pa'!" (said as if he was spitting it out!). An audience member chimed in, "Afterwards, it's "ah!" And this co-creation is exactly how learning happens, and growth occurs.

The essential message I took away from the 2-hour session: "We are erecting and perfecting a higher level of reality. Our higher self has returned and we are in the process of journeying up to meet it."

When you receive information like this in a room suffused with love from a group of "wise guides," you can't help but drop weight.

And this is another of The Nine's key messages: the distinction between "luggage" and "baggage". Luggage is what you need to move ahead; baggage is what you need to release. I dreamed years ago about packing for a trip, discovering when I arrived that all my heavy outer garments had been left behind. You can learn more about the journey that led to the creation of Live Your Light on the CD, What You Need to Know Now: A Road Map for Personal Transformation.

More of The Nine's core messages:

• Prior to the celebration there's a recalibration, and that's what's going on now. (My April 2010 What Shines newsletter topic was "Calibrate," and I must say, listening to The Nine is affirming everything I'm bringing through!)
• The highest level of learning for your soul exists in your emotional body; the soul converts these experiences into wisdom. And it's usually the last place you want to go. One past participant said, "What I want is just beyond the place I don't want to go through!"
• The energy is not your enemy — it's "wrapped in the barnacles of the past". As Caroline Casey (who dueted with Jaison on her radio show twice recently) says, "It's not just viral; it's spiral!"
• Become the kind of companion you've not had in your life before: wise and generous and compassionate and kind. Woo-eee!
• Forgive yourself for all the judgments that have created limitation in your life. You are a powerful creator! Embrace all; you are not the victim here!
• View incompletion as a highly defined art. If you incarnated with people who embody this attribute, you will embody it because you want to help them! Release it emotionally so you can go forward, accept responsibility (the ability to respond) and complete what you've come here to do! WOW!

[This is when The Nine call in the clowns. Jaison said, "See how much light you can stand…until the Light Police come in and say, 'There's too much fun going on here, we have to shut it down!'"]

• Finally, money. "We're coming on a Jubilee ~ all the economies on the planet are going to undergo a fundamental change," Jaison says, as I've written often as well. What was fascinating is when he added: "Most people who are in control of large sums of money are in control of the idea of the money. The experience of money exists in the mind and the heart."

How much Light can you stand? Contact me for an energy upgrade! I'm offering an enlightening laser Summer Special: U Shift

Meltdown

My April newsletter, Nuclear Family, focuses on how to create a "nuclear reaction" that heals all, using "nuclear" as metaphor. But I didn't consider the word "reactor" until I heard Caroline Casey discuss it on her Visionary Activist radio show this week, in which she reminded us that in lieu of being "reactive," we could seek solutions.

"Reactive" is one of those delightful words that lends itself to a subtle shift, like scared into sacred, density into destiny, nowhere to now here: simply by moving the "c", we morph reactive into creative — and we're able to "c" clearly!

One inspiring group of women who see clearly demonstrated with their very lives that love and connection supersede radiation. Known as the "babushkas," this determined group of elders, all past 70, chose soon after the Chernobyl disaster to return to Ground 0, despite warnings that the area was contaminated and permanently uninhabitable. They have survived and thrived in the "Exclusion Zone," eating contaminated food, breathing contaminated air and drinking poisoned water, for a quarter of a century.

On the 25th anniversary of Chernobyl, More magazine did a story about these plucky people who chose their Motherland over fear, proving by example that love can transmute toxins. (Intriguingly and presciently, the interviews were conducted last December, prior to the Japan 'quake/tsunami/reactor breach).

How can we each become a "nuclear creator," choosing from our very core to heal our individual and collective problems through Love? It adds a whole new dimension of meaning to "meltdown," in which we liquefy into the heart of Oneness.

Feel free to Tweet me your ideas! Or post them as Comments here, and I'll relay them to the Twitterverse and beyond. Blessed Be.

Trickster Council: Remembering Kinship, Composting Dread

Caroline Casey's Visionary Activist Radio Show is one of the best ways to spend an hour I've discovered in many a year. I've been listening to her for over a decade, and now, of course, anyone anywhere can tune in, thanks to the magic of the internet.

Today she dueted with singer/songwriter/storyteller and fellow trickster David Lynn Grimes. The topic? The Age of Aquarius! Coming from an eminent astrologer like CC, I knew it'd be great. If you want to be uplifted and, as always, challenged to expand your thinking, tune in:

Caroline Casey's Winter Solstice Guide

From Coyote Network Newswire, the reverently irreverent, always topical, brilliantly quirky Caroline Casey, this take on Solstice as our ultimate turning point:

"Let's keep our appointment with this Mother of All Winter Solstices December 21st, when, for the first time in 248 years (last time, we didn't know about it, so we couldn't collaborate with the deftness available to us now) the Sun conjoins Pluto, (Mr./Ms. Death and Re-birth) at the Trickster Leader Redeemer degree, quickening customized dedication in each one of us.

This is the midnight hour of the year, and of 8,000 years of Empire in which humans had ceded authority (Saturn) to socio-pathic dingbats. Until now!

This Solstice poses the question: 'What must we die to, within and without, lest we die from.'

The I Ching chimes in: 24. The Turning Point - Winter Solstice

'After a time of decay comes the turning point. The powerful light that has been banished returns. There is movement but it is not brought about by force. Societies of people with a unifying vision are formed. But since these groups come together in full public knowledge and are in harmony with the time, all selfish tendencies are excluded, and no mistake is made. Everything comes of itself at the appointed time.'

From deep stillness comes replenishment and the gathering of strategy and wits. Not striving, but calm and merriment.

'The Winter Solstice has always been celebrated as the resting time of the year. In Winter the life energy is still underground. Movement is just at its beginning; therefore it must be strengthened by rest, so that it will not be dissipated by being used prematurely...

The return of health after illness, the return of understanding after an estrangement; everything must be treated tenderly and with care at the beginning, so that the return may lead to flowering.'

Now more than ever.

All of Creation is holding its breath, at this deep time, anticipating the birth, within each human heart, of wonder and willingness to cooperate with everything. May we kindle the warm glow of Trickster kindness, within us all, transform our emotional default setting to one of 'Woof Woof, wanna play!?!' Each moment awaits our imaginative dedication.

So let's toss all that is neither beautiful nor useful into the roiling cauldron of re-birth, that Time is so kindly providing us. (Let's compost all past-patterns of self-sabotage, personal and collective, for starters.)

Let's bow at the threshold of this New Year, to release and redeem all that we do not wish to take with us through the door. Remorse is said to be the highest of the negative states, the closest to clarity - because we see and feel all those times when we didn't respond to life's 'woof woof wanna play?!' When we fell for the compelling illusion of separateness, and forgot that we are all in one large, pulsing, shape-shifting according to collaborative intent, dream.

The Sufi, and we with her, gently pats her heart and whispers 'estafirahlah': forgiveness of self and others. And may 'forgive' mean 'to give energy for change.'

The protoplasm of reality is particularly susceptible to imprint now, by the power of word, language, story and metaphor. Allowing ourselves one true hyperbole: never before has the power of human storytelling been so essential in determining what dies and what lives.

Let us dedicate to animating the desirable story (to do otherwise would be complicitous with the evolutionary dead-end of empire. We suck the chi of our complicity from that which is dying, and exhale into the blooming of dynamic collaborative kinship We are here to re-dedicate to the responsibility of dreaming the desirable world into being.

Saturnalia: Deeper Dedication is the anti-dote to fear, as feeling useful is the anti-dote to depression. There - that's handled.

So, let's visualize and dedicate, wherever we are on Solstice, and journeying on into this powerful winter, that we are offering our unique and necessary Medicine, into the collective cauldron brew, and ladling ourselves a cup of All-Heal.

Trickster Medicine is really the sine qua non that brings all the other medicines into bubbling accord to produce the elixir of Dynamic Reverent Ingenuity."

Alice Walker Advises Obama

Pulitzer-prize winning author Alice Walker ("The Color Purple") has written an open letter to US President-elect Barack Obama that captures the essence of what new leadership must look like. She counsels:

• Cultivate your own happiness
• Make time for your loved ones
• Have no enemies. Her remarks echo those of visionary activist astrologer Caroline Casey, who has frequently said, of Bushco: "We are enemies of their projects but friends of their soul."

Here's Ms. Walker's letter in full. May you take it to heart!

Tonight: Night of Immense Power and Potential!

Caroline Casey reports that tonight, September 26, 2008, is a night of incredible power and promise, not just on a political level:

"It is a time when vows to fulfill one's assignment are animated, and also a time when Fate both embraces those who dedicate themselves to their dharmic role and dismisses those who are not an energetic math for the Story of the time...

"Ally Deborah Felmeth, from Syria, further informs us of this late-breaking ancient Mythic News:

'The Night of Majesty, also called the Night of Grandeur and the Night of Power is Friday September 26th this year. It falls always on the night of the 27th day of Ramadan, which is the ninth month of the Islamic Year. As the Islamic calendar is a Lunar calendar it falls approximately 11 days earlier within our Solar calendar each year. Prayer on this night is considered to be better than prayer for 1,000 months. The veils between the worlds most thin at this time...'

"'But Fate had no further use for him,' is one phrase, by which those not dedicated to the greater good are dismissed and shunted back-stage.

"It is not Gabriel, but Al-Burak, the widely revered magic flying horse with the face of a beautiful woman, body of horse, giant white swan's wings, a tail of peacock colors, who takes Mohammed all over the world and to heaven and back on this night.

"So beginning the Night of September 26th, debate or whatever night, we fly with Al-Burak for the next 40 Days to the election Night. There's lots to work with here.

Our default setting is that everything is perfect, in some quirky way ..."

Conjuring Creative Choice

Just heard on Caroline Casey's provocative, seriously playful, intensely informative radio show on KPFA.org: the Dalai Lama and George Bush share the same birthday (different years), illustrating the different ways the energy can go ... wow ... what possibility to you wish to activate now?
